Erna H. Martin

SOUTH PARIS – Erna H. Martin, 93, of South Paris, Maine passed away on March 19, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born in Norway, Maine on March 3, 1931, to Grace Erna King and George Henry Hill.

Erna was a devoted and dedicated mother who raised four children. She loved living in Arizona, for close to 30 years. While living there she performed and taught hula dancing and clogging. She enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren to hula, and sometimes captured it on video. She found joy in helping others as she worked for many years as a receptionist at Weight Watchers. Erna was an avid crafter and made many latch hook hangings, knitted blankets to donate, crocheted, put together many puzzles, and played board games countless times. Her favorite movies were the Sound of Music and Gone With the Wind. She kept watching Gone With the Wind, hoping that the end would change. She especially valued spending time with family, and good friends, and always wished for more time with them. She had a great sense of humor, was feisty and fun to talk with. Erna was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for many years and loved fellowshipping with other members.

Erna spent the last year of her life at Aspen Grove Assisted Living Community where she enjoyed lots of activities and made many friends. Everyone appreciated her wonderful sense of humor and she will be missed. We would like to thank the staff and her friends for helping take such good care of her.

She is survived by her children, stepchildren and grandchildren, Linda and George Young, James and Elaine Hamlin, Brenda and John Carrell, Wanda and Billy Piasecki, Sherry and Charlie Bennett, Judith Allen, Duane and Teri Martin, Yvette Young and Louis Rumanes, Dawn Young and Brad Hutchison, Kara and Todd Cantwell, Juli and Jamie Spaulding, Jeffrey Hamlin, Stephen and Jess Hamlin, Jason and Sarah Hamlin, Michele and Mark Reich, Tamra and Mark Ashby, Travis and Michelle Baker, Ryan and Lindsay Baker, Nicholas and Natali Baker, Mollie and Tommy Lloyd, Cassie and Scott Christensen. She was immensely blessed with 44 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Ayer, married from 1954-1970, most recent husband, Stanley C. Martin, married from 1977-2002; great granddaughter Sophee Ashby; and stepson Stanley (Slug) C. Martin II.
