Jean Worthley

RUMFORD – Mrs. Jean Worthley, 83, died Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Rumford Community Home. She was a resident of Peru.

Jean was born in Peru, on May 19, 1940, and was a daughter of Duncan and Lucille (Vaughan) Gill. She was a graduate of Stephens High School and worked for Diamond Match and was the manager of Newman’s Market in Dixfield. She volunteered her secretarial and bookkeeping skills with local organizations and was a volunteer at GRAMPS on Wednesdays.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rumford and Mexico, she loved to play the piano and sing. She also loved summers at Dummer’s Beach in Weld and wintered in Florence, S.C., always a group of family and friends enjoying a campfire.

Jean was married on Sept. 17, 1960, to Richard L. Worthley who died in Rumford on Aug. 13, 2008.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Kennedy and husband Carroll of Rumford, Pennie Arsenault of Mexico, Lynda Worthley of Rumford, and Carol Palmer and husband Randy of Peru. Grandchildren, David Knox, Steven and husband Tim Guyne, John and wife Jessy Arsenault, Joey Worthley, Ryan and Isaiah Stickney, Brittany and husband Phil Drapeau, and Joshua and wife Brianna Palmer. Great-grandchildren, Jacob, Maddy, Logan, Olivia, Delaney and Avery, and a sister Marion Wyman of Smithfield.

She was predeceased by brothers, Ernest, Harold, Robert and Kenneth and a son-in-law Frank Arsenault.

The family would like to thank the North Wing of the Rumford Community Home for their excellent care of their “Jeannie Beanie” and Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2024, at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford. Interment later in the spring will be in the Demeritt Cemetery in Peru.
