AUBURN — A Lewiston man is facing a felony robbery charge in connection with a Big Apple store robbery in Lewiston last month.

Ali Abdi Mohamed, 25, was charged in an indictment handed up Tuesday by an Androscoggin County grand jury.

The robbery charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

He also was charged with violation of condition of release, a misdemeanor that’s punishable by up to six months in jail.

Investigators said Mohamed was seen on video surveillance in the Main Street store on March 13 at 6:30 a.m.

Witness accounts also identified him as a suspect, according to police.

He was tracked to his Bates Street apartment where he was arrested after a police investigation.

Police said Mohamed tried to flee when officers arrived, but he was quickly captured and taken into custody.

No details about the robbery were made available by police.

Mohamed also was charged with violating conditions of release from earlier charges and on outstanding warrants charging him with domestic assault, assault, refusing to submit to arrest, failure to appear in court and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

He was freed from jail since his arrest.
