LEWISTON — A stirring ceremonial first pitch got Lewiston’s season started, then the Blue Devils’ bats erupted for an 11-7 win over Bangor in a KVAC softball matchup Wednesday at Joseph Deschenes Field.
Juliet Philippon had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Blue Devils’ offense.
Ava Dionne had two hits and two RBIs while Aubrey Peer and Jersey Cunningham notched two hits. Isabella Enos had a double while driving in two runs.
Dionne took the win in the circle, striking out seven while allowing 13 hits and seven runs. She also walked one.
Taylor Clark homered and had three other hits for Bangor. Victoria Jarnich doubled and singled and had two RBIs. Gabby Raymond had two singles and an RBI. Eva Coombs had two hits.
Before the game started, Kristy Strout, along with her son Logan, family members of a victim of the Oct. 25 mass shooting in Lewiston, delivered the ceremonial first pitch.
TELSTAR 20, WINTHROP/MARANACOOK 16: Maylyn Hastings had three hits and seven RBIs in the Rebels’ win over the Black Bears in Readfield.
Hastings also picked up the win in the circle, allowing all 16 runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking eight.
Morgan Zetts recorded two hits and four RBIs while Sarah Chase doubled and had three hits total to drive in two runs. Cadence Campbell had two hits and two RBIs.
Ella Rice, Piper Clark and Harper Fyfe had two RBIs each for Maranacook/Winthrop. Rice homered in the game.
CAMDEN HILLS 6, EDWARD LITTLE 5: Maya Stone had two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run as the Windjammers (1-0) beat the Red Eddies (0-1) in Rockport.
Natalie Bolduc also had two hits, and Madison Hannan contributed a single and an RBI.
Alexis Kelsea tripled, singled and drove in a run for Edward Little. Naomi Valcin also had a triple and an RBI, and Tiana Avila and Kylee Lebrun each notched two hits.
BASEBALL
CAMDEN HILLS 4, EDWARD LITTLE 1: Hunter Bell and Brian Leonard combined to throw a one-hitter as the Windjammers won the season opener over the Red Eddies at Central Maine Community College in Auburn.
Eli St. Laurent recorded the only hit for Edward Little, which took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
Camden Hills went ahead 2-1 in the fourth and added two more runs in the sixth. Bell had two hits, including a double, and Kai Young added two singles.
On the mound, Bell gave up EL’s lone hit while striking out 11 in four innings. Leonard struck out four more, including the side in the top of the seventh, while tossing three hitless innings of relief.
Owen Scott pitched all six innings for the Red Eddies, striking out two while giving up seven hits and no walks.
LISBON 8, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 0: Gerek Theriault doubled and singled in the Greyhounds’ win over the Falcons in Lisbon.
He drove in two runs, as did Cody Osmond. Osmond had two singles and earned the pitching win, allowing no hits in four innings of work while striking out eight. He also walked one.
Lincoln Matthews threw three innings of relief, allowing one hit.
Zach McLean had the lone hit for the Falcons.
Tyler Warren took the loss, allowing two earned runs on two hits in three innings of work. He struck out four and walked five.
