POLAND — Select Board members Tuesday night recommended passage of a $9.4 million municipal budget for the coming fiscal year, a 7.67% increase over the current $8.94 million budget.

Residents will weigh in on it June 11, along with the 19-article warrant also approved by Select Board members Tuesday.

The amount of the proposed budget to be raised by property taxes is $6.4 million, a 12.51% increase from this year’s $5.7 million. State allocation, fees and excise taxes account for additional revenue to the budget.

The Select Board also voted to place a question on the June 11 ballot from Regional School Unit 16. District leaders are seeking approval for a $110,000 interest-free bond to build new accessibility ramps and modify the bathrooms at Minot Consolidated School to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

The funds are being requested through the School Revolving Renovation Fund from the Maine Department of Education. While the town must request the entire bond amount, the state will pay $68,290, or 61.98%. RSU 16’s share will be $41,890, or 38.02%. The town’s repayment will total $8,375 a year for five years.

In other business, the board:

• Followed the recommendation of Fire Rescue Chief Tom Printup and endorsed the purchase of two ambulances from Autotronics of Madawaska for up to $795,900. The ambulances will be available in three years to replace the current 2016 vehicles.

• Approved Seacrest Flooring of Saco to replace carpeting in the Town Office for $20,067.

• Approved two letters of support: one for an application for $500,000 from the federal government to help fund the expansion of the Ricker Memorial Library; the other a request from the Mechanic Falls Water Department to U.S. Rep. Jared Golden to apply for funding to replace the town’s 130-year-old water main. The water department services part of Poland.
