David Eugene Gorey

AUGUSTA – David Eugene Gorey, 77, of Lewiston, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, with his wife by his side at the VA Hospice Center.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1946 in Van Buren, to Anne Cyr and Vincent Gorey. After graduating Edward Little High School in 1965, Gene joined the army and served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968.

Following the Military, he resumed his job at First National Grocery and was promoted to manager.

There he went on to become the manager of Shaw’s for over 20 years. After Gene’s retirement from Shaw’s, he worked at Thos Mosher making furniture which he took much pride in. In his final years he enjoyed working part time as a delivery driver for Auto Zone.

Gene had a passion for classic cars and enjoyed going to car shows. He had a love for bluegrass and country music. He married Doris Reynolds in 1989 and they enjoyed 35 wonderful years together.

He is survived by his brothers, Francis (Louise), George (Jackie), and Roy (Cindy) Gorey and his sisters, Gloria Croteau and Sue (Frank) Hiscock. He was predeceased by his sister Bernadette (Ron) Bellefleur.

He leaves a son Jeff and Mindy Keene and daughter Zoe, daughter Cindy and Corey Gagnier, Jamie and Lucy Reynolds; grandchildren Kaylee, Caleb, Josie, Macie; great grandson Oakland.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 1 – 3 p.m. at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner Street, Auburn, ME A Memorial Service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial in the Veterans’ Cemetery in Augusta will be private.
