Summer Reading

By Sally Holt, Norway

When the sun
comes out
this summer

I will bring out
a new
comfy chair
with shaded
cover.

And book
upon book.

And place
them
on a
side table.

It will
be calm
til
it’s not

the chaos
of my mind
and life
will quiet
for a
while.

I will bring
a cool drink
put on
a bit of
sunscreen
and a
lavender potion
to keep
the bugs
away.

Comfy sneakers
and a white shirt
leggings and
sunglasses

and watch
for the ducks
to come
up the hill
to snack
and snooze
nearby.

I’ll just
have the worry
about the
choice of book
type of drink
and the perfect
placement
of the chair.

If you see
me there

Stop.

I want to
hear your
story

too.
