Here are a few of comments from residents posting on social media or in response to the Sun Journal’s query asking readers for the worst potholes in the area.

SNAPPED AXLE

“The lack of at least filling in potholes legitimately has left me with a broken front suspension. A few weeks ago on my way to work during a rainstorm, I hit the pothole next to KFC heading toward Route 4. The impact was significant enough that my dashboard alerted me ‘collision assist.’ Turns out my (front axle) snapped right in half. Not only did I hit this pothole but there was so much loose gravel on the road I thought for sure my windshield was going to crack.”

THIRD WORLD COUNTRY

“Merrow Road in Auburn is the worst two miles of pavement in the western hemisphere. The potholes are deep, axle-busting monsters that lend the appearance of a war zone in a third world country. Cars and trucks creep around the broken pavement trying to maintain road safety while thoughts of tow trucks and broken wheels dance before their eyes. And it’s been that way for at least the 10 years since I’ve lived in Auburn.”

ROCK MY LIVING DAYLIGHTS

“(The) intersection near Roy’s on Washington (Street in Auburn) rocks my living daylights everyday. . . . But we need to inspect and pay registration for our cars to drive on roads that cost (hundreds) of dollars for suspension components that get blown to bits every winter! All for roads that turn my radio up, my windows down and (unlock) my doors! That’s how hard I hit the potholes!”

APOLOGIZE TO MY CAR

“I currently do DoorDash in the area. There are so many areas that need help that I can’t even list them all. I have to apologize to my car at least 10 times a day. (It) worries me about the extra wear and tear on my vehicle.”

HOTEL ROAD WRIST BREAKER

“Both lanes on Hotel Road Auburn from the airport store to Kittyhawk Avenue intersection are one long steering wheel wrist breaker. Shoulda been repaved two years ago! I grew up on Center Street when it was two lanes and two car dealers before the NAPA store. On my a.m. paper route in spring, my bag couldn’t hold all the hubcaps I collected. At a buck apiece it was profitable!”
