Lucian “Joe Pete” Dube Jr.

AUBURN – Lucian “Joe Pete” Dube, Jr., 91 of Livermore, peacefully passed from this world Thursday morning, April 25, 2024. At the time of his passing, he was receiving his care at Clover Health Care in Auburn.

Lucian was born Dec. 12, 1932 in Chisholm to Lucian and Laura (Stimans) Dube. He attended schools in Livermore.

In 1952. he married Arlene (Staples) Dube in Livermore. Lucian was employed at International Paper and James River Otis Division from 1955-1995, retiring from the Maintenance Department. Lucian served four years with the U.S. Air Force serving in Japan and Tacoma, Wash. He was discharged in 1955 and he and Arlene made their home and raised their four children in Livermore.

One of Lucian’s greatest passions was his camp on Brettuns Pond in Livermore. He and Arlene spent many happy days there and hosted many family gatherings and even some baptisms held there. He loved his Pontoon boat and was quick to offer rides to family and friends, he also loved engaging in many rousing games of Horseshoes beside the pond. Arlene and Lucian shared 70 years of marriage and renewed their wedding vows on their 65th wedding anniversary at their beloved North Livermore Baptist Church surrounded by relatives, friends, and their church family.

Lucian was a member of North Livermore Baptist Church. He recommitted his life to Christ at the age of 83 and then began attending church faithfully with Arlene. He loved his church family and loved being a part of the adult Sunday School for as long as he was able. At home he anticipated starting his day by sharing in daily devotions with Arlene. Those caring for him after Arlene’s passing continued to read from devotionals and pray with him as was his habit for years.

Lucian faced many challenges later in his life; the challenge of losing his vision, losing his mobility, losing his wife of 70 years in 2022, having to go to a nursing home when his needs grew greater than his family and caregivers could provide for at home. His faith stayed strong, and he leaned on God through all these challenges.

He was comfortable and content at Clover Health Care. The staff there were wonderful. His family is so grateful for the care he received there and for the support that staff there gave to his family. He enjoyed getting company there especially if they brought him a treat and read him some scripture, prayed with him, or shared a devotion, a story or a joke. He kept his sense of humor through his last days there.

Lucian is survived by sons William Dube and wife Candy of Sangerville, Wayne Dube and wife Mary of Livermore Falls, daughters Sherry Newdick and husband Gary of Nokomis, Fla., Susan Lyons and husband Prince of Livermore; and a sister-in-law, Carol Jackson of Clearmont, Fla.; grandchildren Christina Padillia of Tallahassee, Fla., Jennifer Staggs and husband Jeff of Sabattus, Terry Dube and wife Rachel of Kaufman, Texas, Trista Gray and husband Ryan of Green, Alison Higgins and husband Joe of Sidney, Stephanie Black and husband Chris of Winthrop, Angela Lake and fiancé Adam Sampson of Livermore Falls, Amanda Hubbell and husband Chris of Auburn; and 19 great-grandchildren. Lucian is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Arlene; his parents; and sisters Grace Judd, Frances Therrien, Rena Hiltz, Elenore Wilber, Laura Bennett and Louise York and brothers Gene Turcotte, and George Turcotte.

It was Lucian’s wish that his memorial service be a graveside service. This committal service will take place at a later date when he and Arlene will be interred together at Gibbs Mill Cemetery, Fish Meadow Road in Livermore.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lucian’s memory to
