Norman “Targie” A. Letalien Sr.

LIVERMORE – Norman “Targie” A. Letalien Sr. passed away on April 26, 2024, at the age of 89. Norman was born in Livermore Falls on June 14, 1934, the son of Ferdinand (Henry) and Roxie Luce Letalien. He attended schools in Livermore and Livermore Falls graduating from Livermore Falls High School in 1955.

He was employed by International Paper in both the Otis and Androscoggin mills. He was a member of their Quarter Century Club and retired from the mill in 1987. He then worked at Sisters of Charity Health Systems – St Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston where he retired as Chief Engineer of the boiler plant in 2012.

He was married to Barbara Gray of East Livermore on Nov. 26, 1955, at Eaton Memorial Methodist church in Livermore Falls. They were married 68 years. He was a skilled craftsman who found joy in working with wood and construction. His greatest achievement was the lifelong family home he built. He was a Webelos leader in his younger years and was currently a member of North Livermore Baptist Church. He loved hunting with his son Norman Jr., and his pancakes were a much sought after treat in the family. His iconic corn cob pipe was well known by family and community alike.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; son Michael (Pam), son Norman Jr, (Kim) and daughter Elizabeth (Kirk); seven grandchildren, Eric Letalien, Heather Costa, Michael Rodgers, Keith Grundy, Christy Rodgers, Anna Letalien and Laura Letalien; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brother-in-law Bruce Gray. He is predeceased by his parents; his sisters Pauline Knapp, Ervine Binette, Evelyn Grondin, his brother Bill Riley; and close cousin George Litalien.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, May 3, at North Livermore Baptist Church, 619 Federal Road, Livermore, Maine. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Family interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 100 Fayette Road, Livermore, Maine. Arrangements by FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine.
