DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Center for Wisdom’s Women in Lewiston is hoping to add some new “companions” to our roster of volunteers.

Companions are a vital part of our ongoing program to support and encourage area women in their daily lives. No special training is needed. Companions should be good listeners who can be present for a wide range of lifestyles and diverse backgrounds.

We are not therapists. Our goal is simply to be present and supportive for the women who drop in. A background in teaching, social work, chaplaincy, etc. is useful but not essential.

Companions volunteer three to four hours once a week. We are open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and encourage any potential volunteers to drop in and visit our staff and guests.

More information is available at https://wisdomswomen.org/ or call 513-3922.

As always, we can use donations of shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste and deodorant. If anyone has an extra Keurig we could really use it! Items may be dropped off at 97 Blake St. in Lewiston during our regular hours. — Sonia, no town

ANSWER: Whenever you have extra items, or the funds to purchase a few things, always remember our area nonprofits that do so much good for the community. Every action, no matter how small, helps. And if you are involved with a nonprofit, periodically send Sun Spots your wish list! I will include a list of your needs in the column.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is additional information for the bake sale to benefit Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends (April 29 Sun Spots).

Baked goods can be dropped off the morning of the sale. If more information is needed, folks can call me at 240-0838.

We are also accepting bottle and can donations. All recyclables must be clean.

More information can be found on Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/tommysferalfelinefriends).  Monetary donations can be done through this page as well. — Rosanna, no town

ANSWER: I’ll repeat the information that was in Monday’s Sun Spots — I don’t want anyone to miss the opportunity to support this amazing organization that is loved by so many:

Tommy’s Feral Feline Friend’s is having a Mother’s Day Bake Sale and Bottle Drive. We are asking for bakers to please donate baked goods. Items must be wrapped, labeled, and priced. Please, no cupcakes. The sale is happening May 10 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Sabattus Regional Credit Union, 2 Middle Road in Sabattus.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is a friendly reminder that the Androscoggin Watershed Conference will be held at the Auburn Senior Community Center on Pettengill Drive in  Auburn on May 7 from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information and registration, go to www.androscogginwatershed.org.

The Androscoggin River Watershed Council is also in need of volunteers to help with the river monitoring program. This involves early morning testing of water quality using meters twice a month for the summer. If interested in learning more, please contact me at flea.arwc@gmail.com.–Ferg, no town

ANSWER: You can be part of this important work by attending the conference and signing up to volunteer. This is your opportunity to learn more about Maine’s rivers, be involved, and to be outside.
