RUMFORD — The town has received $474,000 from its insurer for damage to Hosmer Field Complex from last winter’s flood.

Town Manager Stacy Carter made the announcement to selectmen at their meeting Thursday.

“That should give us a good start to get that facility back in working order and replacing the equipment that was lost,” he said.

Park and Recreation Superintendent Marcus Palmer estimated $2 million damage to the fields, buildings and equipment from the Dec. 18, 2023, flood. The complex covers 450 acres.

Carter said the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s damage assessment is underway.

“The last couple of weeks, FEMA has looked over damages of our roads and culverts, the track facility to include the trail,” Carter said. We will be applying for FEMA mitigation money to help replace and move the office building.”

Also, he said replacing asbestos tiles on both floors of the library is underway. The library at 56 Rumford Ave. is closed for about five to six weeks.

In other business, the board voted 4-0 to approve a bid of $110,510 by Swasey Excavation of Andover for sand and gravel. Selectmen also voted 4-0 to approve a bid of $846,445 by Spencer Paving of Turner for paving.

Another 4-0 vote approved a two-year contract with Lucas Striping of Sidney for $15,309 to annually to stripe yellow and white lines in town.

The board tabled a bid for winter sand because Carter said there is a significant supply, which will be moved if the town acquires a used sand and salt shed.
