University of Southern Maine senior Cece Racine was named the Little East Conference Goalkeeper of the Year on Tuesday.
The Lewiston graduate also earned First Team All-LEC honors. It’s the third straight all-conference selection for Racine, who was a first-team pick in 2022 and a second-team honoree in 2023.
This season, Racine led the conference with a .518 save percentage and 11.29 saves per game. That save percentage ranks eighth in NCAA Division III.
BASEBALL
MUSTANGS HONORED: Central Maine Community College freshman Levi Tibbetts has been named Pitcher of the Year by the Yankee Small College Conference.
Tibbetts, a graduate of Lisbon High School, was one of four Mustangs honored by the conference. Sophomore infielder Brandon Gour and freshman shortstop Lee Robertson were both chosen for the all-conference team, and former Edward Little standout Brady Vincent received honorable mention.
Tibbetts went 2-3 and led CMCC with 46 2/3 innings pitched and 69 strikeouts. He finished with a ERA of 3.09 and opposing hitters hit .231 against him. In conference play, his ERA dropped to 0.79 and batting average against to .143.
Vincent, a freshman, drove in 12 runs, hit a home run and four doubles. Three of his doubles and seven of his RBIs came during conference play. His slash line of .266 batting average/.333 on-base percentage/.365 slugging percentage improved to .345/.387/.448 in YSCC play.
SOFTBALL
UMF’S PIKE RECOGNIZED: University of Maine at Farmington sophomore third baseman Maddie Pike has been chosen as the North Atlantic Conference’s Softball co-Player of the Week.
In two games last week, Pike was 4 for 7 at the plate with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and she scored two runs, helping the Beavers sweep a doubleheader against Thomas on Saturday.
Pike is UMaine-Farmington’s first player of the week since Winthrop High School graduate Kayleigh Olberg earned the honor in 2018.
Pike has multiple hits in seven consecutive games, a streak she takes into the postseason after helping the Beavers reach the NAC playoffs for the first time since 2019. UMF is the No. 3 seed and will open the NAC tournament in Bangor against No. 6 Thomas on Thursday at noon. The winner moves on to play second-seeded SUNY Poly at 4 p.m.
The double-elimination tournament continues Friday and resumes with the championship round Saturday.
MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
BEAVERS’ VACHON IS NAC’S BEST: UMaine-Farmington’s Ben Vachon was announced as the NAC Field Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.
The junior from Portland placed second in the decathlon at the NAC Championships, won the high jump and also placed in the long and triple jumps.
Vachon won individual events during the decathlon competition in the 100-meter dash, long jump and high jump. He finished with a total of 4,801 points.
He repeated as NAC champion in the high jump, clearing 1.82 meters to capture the conference crown this season. He was fourth in the long jump, with a best leap of 6.43 meters, and placed seventh in the triple jump, completing 12.21 meters on his best turn.
WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
HUSKIES DUO GRAB ACCOLADES: Southern Maine teammates Zoe Barnes and Kiana Goldberg each received LEC weekly awards Tuesday.
Barnes, a junior and a Gray-New Gloucester grad, was named LEC Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this spring, and Goldberg’s Track Rookie of the Week honor is the former Lisbon standout’s fourth of the season.
Barnes was the runner-up in the shot put at this past weekend’s NCAA Division III New England Championships, besting her own program record with a toss of 13.16 meters. She also had a season-best mark of 43.64 meters in the discus to place fourth in the event. Her marks are 23rd in all of Division III in the discus and 37th in the shot put.
Goldberg had the eighth-fastest time in the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles, finishing her heat in 15.30 seconds. She advanced to the final, where she placed eighth with a time of 15.55 seconds. She was the fastest freshman in the event. She also was part of the Huskies’ 4×100-meter relay that finished in 14th place with a combined time of 51.98 seconds.
MEN’S LACROSSE
MICHAUD MAKES ALL-CONFERENCE LIST: St. Joseph’s College graduate student Xavier Michaud was named Third-Team All-Conference by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference on Tuesday.
The Oak Hill High School graduate is a third-team selection for the second straight season. Michaud capped his collegiate career by breaking his own program record for goals in a season (57), and finished the campaign with 63 points and 24 ground balls.
He was second in the conference in goals and man-up goals (12), with the man-up total the seventh highest in NCAA Division III as of May 7.
Michaud ends his Monks career second in program history with 144 goals and third in man-up goals (25) and points (178).
