LEWISTON — Central Maine Healthcare has a new medical director of trauma. David Lewis, MD, recently joined the team and will practice at Central Maine Surgical Associates at Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC).
Dr. Lewis completed his undergraduate studies at Williams College in Massachusetts before attending the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his residency in Florida at Tampa General Hospital.
Dr. Lewis says while trauma and emergency surgery are difficult fields, he chose them because it’s where he can help people when they need it most.
“Those of us who suffer surgical emergencies or traumas do so without any warning or preparation,” Dr. Lewis said. “At one moment, a person is fine, and the next moment, he or she is facing serious injuries and profound uncertainty. I cannot control the bad things that happen to people; however, as an emergency surgeon and trauma surgeon, I can use my knowledge and skills to help make a difficult situation less difficult.”
Dr. Lewis is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
CMMC is a regional trauma center for Androscoggin County and surrounding counties. The hospital treated more than a dozen victims of the Oct. 25, 2023 mass casualty event in Lewiston.
