NORWAY — The New Balance Warming Hut on Cottage Street has been vandalized, according to a Facebook post from Parks, Recreation, and Cemetery Director Deven Pendexter.
The hut was vandalized at the end of Memorial Day weekend and a few times last week, Pendexter said by email Wednesday.
“In reality the damage only totaled up to (four) broken windows and nothing stolen,” he wrote.
Pictures on the post show broken glass windows on the interior and exterior and trash piled up inside.
The windows have been boarded up and a trail camera has been added for surveillance, Pendexter said. There is a line in the municipal budget specifically for the warming hut, which will cover any repairs.
“We are working to have more of a presence at the facility and getting some better lighting. Also looking into security cameras,” he wrote.
Pendexter said the parks department believes it knows who the vandals are and that they are in middle school. The police have been informed, he said.
Anyone with information or a suspicious sighting to report is asked to call the parks department at 739-7050.
