100 Years Ago: 1924

John W. Davis, the democratic presidential nominee, after some persuasion, posed for photographers as he passed through Bath early today on his way from New York to Islesboro.

Mr. Davis also thanked the people who had gathered at the station for the interest they had shown and said later he hoped to see more of them. He was given three cheers as he thanked them again and disappeared into his Pullman car, the Chandler.

A symbol of small-business success in Farmington was destroyed Saturday by a fire of unknown origin.

The Route 27 former Fairbanks schoolhouse which housed Manufacturing and Technical Enterprises, an assembly plant for electronic parts, collapsed amid clouds of smoke from a fire that officials said started in the basement.
