DEAR SUN SPOTS: Because of a shipping error, I now have a case of cardboard cup holders. I have no use for them and the company does not want them returned.
The individual item is described as a foldable 4-cup drink carrier with a handle, 6.5 x 6.5 inches. Are there any local small businesses, nonprofits, or crafty individuals who can use them? They are free and I can forward a photo if requested.
Please contact me at 524-7151 and leave a message. My fingers are crossed. I would hate to take these cup holders to be recycled. — Sue, Leeds
ANSWER: I’m sure someone will give you a call but you may also want to contact your favorite local mom and pop coffee shop to see if they could use them. Or perhaps a soup kitchen or food pantry could make use of them. Let us know what happens.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: In your recent column (Aug. 13 Sun Spots), I saw that someone was asking for computer repair shops in the area. I own D&D Computers in Lewiston and would like to make sure I am mentioned in the future if possible. I also noticed you listed ACS (Action Computer). I am working in partnership with the owner of that now and he is no longer in the consumer business. I can be contacted at [email protected] or 419-9184. Thank you! — Dustin, Lewiston
ANSWER: Thank you, Dustin! I want to be sure to keep the Rolodex up to date!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone know someone who repairs Howard Miller grandfather clocks? It’s a 23rd anniversary Tempus Fugit. Someone in the Lewiston/Auburn area would be best. Please contact me at 784-1290. — Anita, no town
ANSWER: In Auburn, there is Rohman Clockworks. The business is at 350 Minot Ave. and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. In Oxford, there is King Street Clock Repair Inc. (https://kingstreetclocks.com/). You can reach the business through the online contact form or email them at [email protected] or call 739-9038.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you know if the Tractor Supply Store is still planning to build on Route 4 in Turner? — Carole, Livermore
ANSWER: As of March 21, 2024, Tractor Supply was expected to open a new store in Turner by the end of the year. The 21,930-square-foot store will be at 1600 Auburn Road and includes a 19,870-square-foot outdoor display area and a 3,672-square-foot garden center.
The developer, Primax Properties of Charlotte, North Carolina, said the store will be slightly larger than the typical Tractor Supply store. The permit for the store was approved in March 2024 after a delay due to federal permitting and involvement from multiple agencies.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently you published the name of companies/people who refinish wood floors in the Lewiston/Auburn area. Would you be willing to share those again? — Charlene, no town
