OXFORD HILLS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School initiated its lock down procedure Tuesday, Oct. 8, at approximately 9 a.m. after a hand written note was found in the school referencing a school shooting, according to Paris Police Lieutenant Justin Cummings.
The school, said Cummings, was placed into lock down during the initial investigation. Several interviews were conducted and a juvenile suspect was positively identified.
The threat was found to be a hoax, Cummings said, noting that the The Paris Police Department takes these threats involving school-aged children very seriously. He said the department will be forwarding criminal charges to the District Attorney’s Office.
The district sent parents a text message at 9:12 a.m. notifying them that the school was currently in “a hold in place to allow law enforcement to investigate a threat.” The text explained that the lock down was necessary in order to secure the perimeter of the school by not allowing anyone in or out, thereby ensuring the safety of the students and staff.
