MECHANIC FALLS – Robert William Herrick, born Aug. 31, 1931, of Mechanic Falls passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on Oct. 20, 2024, at the age of 93.
Robert was born in Brunswick, and grew up with six brothers, Richard, Harold, Donald, Ralph, Jack, Jimmy and one sister, Helen. He married the love of his life, Eleanor, whom he fondly tells stories about giving this young girl his raisins on the way to school and the many memories of how they met and grew up together and then married for 71 years, while raising nine children in the Brunswick and Auburn areas of Maine.
Robert served in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in December 1952. He worked for the postal service and earned many awards for his time before his retirement in 1992.
Robert was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his sons. He was a woodworker and handy with his hands and enjoying repairing old furniture.
He is survived by his nine children, Linda Sterns (Dave) of Appleton, Gary Herrick (Sue) of Auburn, Ronald Herrick (Ann) of Sabattus, Sharon Bergeron (Jean) of Hebron, Danny Herrick (Marie) of Auburn, Patti Barry (Dan) of Poland, Christina Lavers 0f Wales, Alison Dehetre (Glenn) of Mechanic Falls, Helen Peppe (Eric) of Buxton. Robert was blessed with 23 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Roy Herrick; his wife, Eleanor; sister, Helen, and brothers Jimmy, Jack, Donald and Harold; and three grandchildren, Rebecca, Adrienne and Randy.
