Marcel L. Lajoie
AUBURN – Marcel L. Lajoie, known affectionately as Mike to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Dec. 2, 2024, at Clover Manor in Auburn, at the age of 96. Born on June 1, 1928, in Lewiston, Mike retired in Lewiston/Auburn where he spent his final moments surrounded by the love and memories that he had built over his lifetime.
Mike was a devoted family man, married to his late wife Doris for 51 years. His legacy continues through his cherished family, including his brother Michel (also known as Mike) with wife Rita, his son Rick and wife Peggy, his daughter JoAnn Chekovsky with husband Ed, his beloved grandchildren Danielle, Josh, Elizabeth, and Julie, and his eight adoring great-grandchildren. In his later years, Mike also shared life with Dot Ritchie and her family.
After high school, Mike distinguished himself as a hardworking and skilled craftsman. His career as a sheet metal shop foreman demonstrated his commitment to excellence and his ability to lead with both strength and compassion. Mike’s work ethic was only matched by his dedication to his country; proudly serving as a China Marine during World War II, and as a respected member of the USMC HSIN Ho Survivors.
Mike’s character was the epitome of selflessness. He was the kind of man who always put others before himself, offering help without hesitation or desire for recognition. His wisdom was sought by many, as he had a way of providing guidance that was both insightful and practical.
Marcel “Mike” Lajoie’s presence will be profoundly missed, but the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the integrity with which he lived will continue to inspire those who knew him. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the impact one person can have, simply by being true to themselves and giving freely to others.
Rest in peace, Mike. Your journey was long and full of love, and while you may have left this world, the imprints of your life will forever remain in the hearts of those you’ve left behind.
