The Bethel Planning Board reviews proposed plans for the town of Bethel. Chaia Alford/The Bethel Citizen
BETHEL — The Planning Board meeting heard several proposals of new developments to occur within the Bethel area.
These new plans include action towards the development of a community space in the former Bethel Inn Event Center. The planning board has requested a notarized letter regarding a purchase and sale agreement. No other actions have been taken towards the development of the center at this time.
Construction
Other new developments include a construction deal, originally initiated in 2006, that has begun to take steps forward. The development considers the lot beside the JMC Storage units on Mayville Rd., proposing a secondary duplex.
According to Main-Land Development Consultants in its letter to the Bethel Planning Board, “The only change to the plan is the separation of Lot 1 into Lot 1A and Lot 1B, creating a separate lot for each duplex building.”
Revisions were made to the plan after it was deemed unsafe to have a secondary entrance point for the second lot leading onto Route 2. The planning board determined that the plan must be revised with current details.
The plan was also met with a degree of skepticism from the board over the use of the term “reasonably foreseeable needs” used in the application, and it’s vagueness. The revisions have been approved and may be discussed moving forward.
House of Pizza
The third development is that of the Bethel House of Pizza. Emily Costello put in a request to construct a new building. In her letter to the planning board she stated, “We determined the old buildings were too deteriorated to be renovated.”
The proposed building will be 2,100 square feet of wood and timber, that they hope will be “a shining star at the entrance to downtown.” A site walk for the site was approved, and will be occurring on Dec. 20.
