To the Editor:

My name is Eva. I go to King Middle School in Portland, Maine. This year, we have researched different energy sources. I believe Maine should focus on hydropower, solar, and oil energy to help us move into a better future.

Maine should focus on hydropower energy to help us reach a better future in 2040. My stance on climate change is hydropower. This energy will be able to take us into a better Carbon-neutral future. To summarize, this would mean that small community-sized resources can and should be built along our world’s small bodies of water.

When we start using solar power consistently, then we are creating a reduction in the use of fossil fuels. Even though we need combustible resources to create panels that collect energy from the sun. The sun shines all across our planet every day. Only the extreme Polar North and Antarctic South are exceptions to this benefit When you look at the use of photovoltaic panels over twenty years.

With more than a century of innovation behind the technology we have today, we can produce more cheap energy through the consumption of oil. The refineries in the U.S. run twenty-four hours a day and three hundred sixty-five days a year, requiring many employees.

In conclusion, Maine should focus on hydropower, solar, and oil energy to help us move into a better future in 2040. My question is, what can you do to support Maine’s carbon-neutral energy future?
