RANGELEY — A new dog grooming business will open for business on Monday, Jan. 6. Paw Spaw is not a typical grooming establishment. It will not be full of dogs waiting their turn to be washed, dried, fluffed and brushed. The focus instead is on one dog, and only one dog at a time, said owner Tracey Angello.
“Paw Spaw will offer a one-on-one private environment,” she said. “It will be just me, one drier and no other commotion. This is to help ease dogs who may be anxious and it allows for my full focus to be on the pet.”
There will be no kenneling of dogs, she added. Some dogs have never been in a kennel before and using one could increase their anxiety. If owners run a little late picking up their pooch after services are complete, cubbies will be available. The cubbies are not cages and have open tops, she noted.
Angello is a professional groomer with three years of experience. She is also certified in pet CPR and First Aid. Until very recently she was the owner and operator of a mobile grooming service in the Turner area.
Even with a home and business in central Maine, Angello is no stranger to northern Franklin County.
For the past 23 years, her family has had a second property in Eustis where they would spend weekends and vacations.
“We would always drive down the Bemis Road to put our boat in and dream of having a place in Rangeley.”
Angello and her husband were thrilled when they were presented with an opportunity that made their dream a reality. Earlier this year, they sold their Eustis Ridge property and purchased a home in Rangeley.
Still, the couple would spend weekdays in Turner and weekends in Rangeley.
“We were sleeping in Turner Monday through Thursday and we found really wanted to spend time here,” Angello said. “We decided to make the move to Rangeley full-time.”
Angello considered bringing her mobile grooming business to Rangeley. She quickly reconsidered when she realized how difficult it might be to travel to clients in her van during winter and mud season. In the end, she opted to sell her mobile business and start fresh with a salon.
Paw Spaw will offer full grooming services by appointment Monday through Thursday. It is located on Main Street, behind Northern Lights.
“We will have full grooming services; everything from start to finish,” Angello said.
Monthly $15 nail trim clinics will also be offered. The clinics will run on a first come, first served basis, not by appointment.
Paw Spaw can also be found on Facebook, however Angello does not have an online appointment system.
“I like to talk to the owner and get to know them and their dog.” she said. “It is more personal and helps me decide how much time to book for each appointment and allows me to be aware in advance of any needs or anxieties.”
To make an appointment or for more information, call Angello at (207)754-5532.
