LEWISTON — A local man is facing more than a dozen felonies stemming from a weekend party at a home on Smith Street where an altercation reportedly led to the stabbing and shooting of attendees.

Chase Snow, 18, was charged with four counts of elevated aggravated assault, each charge punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Snow also was charged with four counts of aggravated assault involving the same three victims, two men and a juvenile. The maximum punishment of each of those charges is 10 years in prison.

He has been charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and two counts of reckless conduct with a firearm, each felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Two misdemeanor charges include carrying a concealed weapon and discharge of a firearm near a dwelling.

Snow appeared in 8th District Court on Monday from Androscoggin County Jail. Judge Sarah Churchill read through the charges, but didn’t ask Snow to enter any pleas because felony charges must be presented to a grand jury before proceeding to trial unless the defendant waives his right to that process.

Churchill called the allegations “extraordinarily serious.”

She set bail at $250,000 cash with conditions, including that Snow have no contact with any of the victims nor codefendants.

Snow is prohibited from using alcohol or illegal drugs and from possessing firearms or dangerous weapons.

Police investigate a home at 45 Smith St. in Auburn on Saturday afternoon where they say two people were shot and another stabbed at 3:20 a.m. Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal

Assistant District Attorney Brian Yeager called the incident a “pretty substantial event,” adding that the juvenile victim had been stabbed in the upper arm and bicep, one of the men shot in the hand and back, with the latter shot received while he was attempting to flee.

The other man was shot in the neck and throat and was not conscious due to blood loss, Yeager said.

Police found more weapons during a search of Snow’s home, Yeager said.

He said Snow was “heavily intoxicated” at the time of the events and admitted to the criminal conduct, and said Snow posed a safety risk to the community.

Defense attorney Benjamin Lees was seeking $10,000 bail that Snow had saved from construction work.

Although Churchill said Snow was indigent and entitled to a court-appointed lawyer, none was available Monday. She said she would revisit the matter on Thursday if no attorney had been appointed by then.

Daniel Day, 19, and Wendy Day, 57, a son and mother who live at the residence, were charged with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol.

Police responded to 45 Smith St. around 3:20 a.m. on Saturday for reports of a stabbing and shooting incident.

The victims were transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the group had been partying at the Smith Street residence throughout the evening when an altercation began, according to an Auburn Police Department Facebook post.
