100 Years Ago: 1925

Dick Ford, while scraping off the ice on the Androscoggin River with his big truck and plow attachment for the Rumford Driving Association, narrowly escaped drowning. He heard someone scream, “The truck is sinking!” and jumped just in time before the truck went down in 18 feet of water. It required six horses and a wrecking crew to draw the truck from the river, the work being done by James H. Kerr.

50 Years Ago: 1975

When Junior Girl Scout Troop 301 of Holy Cross Church met recently at the home of the leader, Mrs. Normande Lecomte, 17 Beckett St., Lewiston they combined investiture and rededication ceremonies with a court of awards and a Scouts Own, the latter presented by members of grade six in behalf of receiving “Active Citizens of USA” badges. Participating were: Diane Sirois, Elaine Landry, Debbie Gagne, Ann Couture, Rita Mathieu, Laurie Plourde.

25 Years Ago: 2000

Dr. Shawn Woodard, son of Mark and Sheila Woodard, of Lewiston graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Mo., on Dec. 18. Woodard will reside in St. Louis until his wedding on July 22 to Jennifer Stream who is now attending St. Louis University where she is studying finance.

Woodard graduated from Lewiston High School in 1990 and from the University of Southern Maine where he majored in the sciences.

His brother, Dr. Kevin Woodard, also a chiropractor, who now lives in Denver had the honor of hooding his brother during the graduation. This honor is given to former students of Logan College who have a relative graduating.
