Glenn D. Hinckley

AUBURN – Glenn D. Hinckley, 77, born July 2, 1947 on his uncle, Roger Sprague and grandfather, Emery Sprague’s birthdays, to Donald and Barbara (Sprague) Hinckley, passed away, Dec. 31, 2024.

He grew up in West Paris, Worcester, Mass. and Pittsfield, where he graduated from MCI in 1965.

Glenn married Cynthia (Jones) in 1969, moved to West Sumner in 1972, where they raised four daughters: Jennifer, Sarah, Hannah, and Emily (the “Hinckley girls”) until their separation in 1995.

Glenn pursued a variety of jobs, including rubbish route, plowing and ran a body shop and auto repair garage at home, after stints at area VW dealerships, Bessey’s and Jewell’s in South Paris, and even a time at Ellis Boats in Southwest Harbor.

Glenn served the community of Sumner in a number of capacities via the select board, school board, recreation committee and planning board.

One of his greatest adventures was closing part of the garage to open “Beeps Bakery.” Glenn became known, as noted in both The Boston Globe and Yankee Magazine as “Best out of the way Donuts”. They were spectacular and many still remember them, as well as his bread and whoopie pies.

Glenn was loved by his partner, Linda Smith, for the past 20 years. Together, they offered spiritual classes, healing and retreats under “Two Spirits Healing.” Linda cared for and advocated for Glenn as he worked through Parkinson’s Disease.

Glenn leaves behind a sister, Marsha Donahue (Wayne Curlew), Belfast; four daughters, Jennifer (James) Waterman, of Sabattus, Sarah Hinckley (David McFarlane), of Bar Harbor, Hannah (Ryan) Flannery, of Readfield, Emily (Shane) Ellis, of Seal Cove; 12 grandchildren, Charlotte, Sadie and Cora Waterman (David Van Fleteren), Shavano and Zia McFarlane, Porter, Josephine and Byron Flannery, Cedar, Lolietta, RosieAnn and Angel Ellis.

A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring, May 10, at the West Sumner Universalist Church.
