Two members of the Mollere Snowshoe club of Montreal will walk to Lewiston for the great winter carnival and winter sports convention in February, it was announced today by P. L. Gagne, secretary of the committee.

They are Wilfred Dupres and Adelard Tourcot who will leave Montreal on the 28th planning to arrive in Lewiston on Feb. 6.

“They will travel on snow shoes and plan to make between 35 and 40 miles a day.”

They report in their communication to Mr. Gagne that enthusiasm is running high through Montreal for the snowshoe union convention in Lewiston.

“Thousands will come,” they say, requiring at least five special trains and maybe six out of the Dominion into Maine.

An Auburn police sergeant had to bail out of his police vehicle in a hurry early this morning after flames erupted under the hood.

Shortly before 2 a.m., Sgt. Richard Keene radioed headquarters reporting he was fleeing the APD’s pickup truck used by the Maintenance Department. Fire had broken out under the dash. Keene escaped uninjured and managed to extinguish the fire with snow, before firefighters arrived. Police said the blaze apparently started in some wires under the hood. Only minor damage was reported.

Holiday greetings were painted on the windows of the Burger King on Main Street in Lewiston. The multicultural holiday motifs were the artwork of Montello School fifth-grade students in Jim Bazinet’s class. The students and parents worked in teams of two and three to create and paint the holiday art. Burger King manager David Ouellette presented each artist with a special reward.

The material used in Looking Back is produced exactly as it originally appeared although misspellings and errors may be corrected.
