ANSWER: That sounds so nice. What a fabulous way to bring the community together on a cold winter evening. Enjoy the food and the fellowship.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the Feb. 17 Sun Spots, the offices of Murphy and Coyne Attorneys in Lewiston has closed. Coley Coyne has retired and The Androscoggin Historical Society bought the building. — No name, no town

ANSWER: We suspected the attorneys had retired. If Sun Spots readers have other local attorneys they would recommend to assist Margaret with updating her will, please let us know.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I know many grandparents read Sun Spots and I would love some suggestions for entertaining our two grandchildren, ages 8 and 9, during this school vacation week. They live out of state and will be with us for three days at the end of the week and we haven’t taken care of them since they were babies.

These two don’t have iPhones but they are allowed a couple of hours each day of using their iPads. We have some outdoor activities planned but are also looking for good old-fashioned fun we can have together indoors. We don’t know them as well as we would like as they don’t visit us often. We are seniors on a budget and any ideas would be helpful. — Marie, no town

ANSWER: I suggest baking and cooking, working on jigsaw puzzles, going through photos, and telling stories about your growing-up years, talking about the world, playing cards and board games. Kids still like to do these kinds of things, especially if you are participating too. Reading, crafting, painting, and having them help you with household chores can also be fun when done together. Stay engaged and curious as you all learn more about each other. This time is very precious and important for all of you and it doesn’t have to be fancy or costly.

I’m sure they’ll have some great ideas of their own but present them with some new ones. When my grandchildren were about that age, I introduced them to yoga, astronomy, baking bread, maps, and birdwatching. They especially loved foraging for found materials like driftwood and shells and incorporating them into their art.

Grandparents, I’d love to hear your suggestions right away so I can include them in the column before this special visit is over.
