WEST PARIS — Residents at Saturday’s annual town meeting will vote on municipal budget that is 8% more than the previous year.
The meeting will take place at the Ring-Mckeen American Legion Post 151 at 6 Church St., starting at 10 a.m.
The proposed 2025-26 municipal budget totals $1.8 million, an increase of $141,635 over the current budget. The budget does not include assessments for Oxford County and the assessment by Maine School Administrative District 17.
The largest increase is in the highway budget, which rises by $62,555 to $588,367. Smaller increases are also proposed for the Public Works, general government, administration and evaluation budgets.
The proposed Public Safety and community services budgets are lower than the current figures.
Town officials are also asking to use $150,000 from the undesignated fund balance to reduce the amount to be taxed.
Voters will also be asked to allocate more than $84,000 to pay off the 2023 Caterpillar loader backhoe, with funds drawn from the undesignated fund balance.
Additionally, voters will consider funding to cover two overdraft accounts.
Selectman John Eli White is expected to seek reelection.
Voters will also choose a director for MSAD 17, a position held by Veronica Poland. Two seats on the West Paris Water District board of trustees are also up for election.
