DEAR SUN SPOTS: Mark your calendars! The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s Dash For Dogs 5K will be held Sunday, April 27, at 55 Strawberry Ave. in Lewiston, and we can’t wait to see you there!

This fun-filled event is one of our biggest annual fundraisers. It’s a fantastic way to support our mission of providing shelter, food and medical care to needy pets here in our community. Plus, who doesn’t love a reason to get out of the house after a long Maine winter?

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or prefer a leisurely walk, bring your furry friend and join the fun. There will be prizes, too, such as Best Dressed Pet and Top Fundraiser. Plan to invite your friends and family to cheer you on, too. It’s going to be a party!

ANSWER: The Dash for Dogs 5K is a popular, yearly event that gives everyone the perfect opportunity to kick off an active spring and summer by getting outside with our canine friends, while raising funds to help needy dogs in the shelter.

The 2024 event was a great success, raising over $14,000 after expenses, to help provide veterinary care, healthy food, tools for enrichment and much more. There were over 225 registrants, volunteers, fans, vendors and sponsors! The registration fee is $30.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you but we wanted to find the purrfect cat.

We found our new Oreo at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston this past Monday morning. He is a sweet boy who looks just like our beloved Oreo who we had for over 20 years.

Please let the person who was so gracious and offered to pay for a cat for us know. We hope he will make the same offer to another family because we did find the purrfect cat that we could afford. The best part is that the cat has been neutered, has all his shots, and has a microchip.

Please keep up all the good deeds you do for so many people! — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: I’m very happy for you and yes, it would be lovely if the reader who offered to help you with expenses is willing to assist someone else. Enjoy your new Oreo!
