PITTSFIELD — One person was found dead after a fiery crash early Tuesday morning, police said.
Pittsfield police responded to the crash at the intersection of U.S. Route 2 and Beans Corner Road around 12:15 a.m. and found a vehicle on fire, the Pittsfield Police Department said in a statement.
The Pittsfield Fire Department extinguished the fire, and the vehicle’s driver was found dead inside of it, police said.
Police said they were continuing to investigate the crash Tuesday, but believe speed and weather were factors.
The driver’s name was not released Tuesday.
“At this time we believe we know the identity of the operator,” the police department’s statement said.
The identity is expected to be released pending positive identification and notification of next of kin, police said.
Beans Corner Road runs north from U.S. Route 2. The intersection of the two roads is about 1 mile from the Canaan-Pittsfield line and Sibley Pond.
