Three people killed in Sabattus shooting Wednesday
SABATTUS — Police were investigating a shooting incident Wednesday evening at the intersection of King and Middle roads, also known as Route 9, after multiple victims were reportedly shot.
Androscoggin County Sheriff Eric Samson confirmed the shooting incident and said county deputies were assisting at the scene.
Samson said a single shooter in the incident is dead, likely from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Maine Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss confirmed state police are investigating the shooting. She said there is no danger to the public.
Witnesses at the scene said someone was shooting at vehicles passing by, including an SUV. Eric Manley, a neighbor, said a woman in a Subaru Impreza was shot, though that was not confirmed by police as of 7 p.m.
The witnesses said one vehicle collided with a white house and then the shooter shot himself and was seen lying in a yard. Maximus Bard of Auburn, who happened to be in the area at the time of the shooting, said he heard around 10 shots fired.
An unspecified section of Route 9 was closed to traffic and people were asked to avoid the area during the investigation, Moss said.
