TURNER — The annual town meeting will be held Saturday, April 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Leavitt Area High School cafeteria, located at 21 Matthews Way.
The proposed budget from the town’s budget committee is $4 million, and the proposed budget from the Board of Selectmen is $3.99 million. Last year’s approved budget was $3.8 million.
Growth within the community has meant increased volume at the transfer station requiring changes to increase future capacity and traffic flow. One of the warrant items is to authorize the town to purchase 2.5-acres of land from abutting owners in the amount of $4,500 to expand the boundaries of the transfer station to meet Maine Department of Environmental Protection setback requirements.
For the first time in several years, the Planning Board will have no articles for zoning changes at the town meeting.
The rescue department has proposed a capital expenditure to remount an ambulance. The process takes the body of the ambulance and puts it on a new chassis, which is a significant savings compared to the cost of a new ambulance.
Municipal elections will be held Friday, April 11, from 1-7 p.m. at the Turner Town Office at 11 Turner Center Road.
Full details of the proposed budgets are available on the town website.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
