Hailey Cyr struck out 10 while pitching a five-hitter, and Leavitt pushed a cross a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk to beat Buckfield, 4-3, in a softball season opener Thursday in Turner.
Buckfield pitcher Carmen Crockett racked up 13 strikeout and allowed only four hits.
Hailey Turcotte led Leavitt’s offense with two hits, including a triple.
Cora Brewster and Brittany Carrier each drove in a run for Buckfield.
BASEBALL
BUCKFIELD 9, CARRABEC 3: Gabe White struck out 12 over six innings and drove in three runs, leading the Bucks to a season-opening victory in Buckfield.
White took a shutout into the sixth before giving up three unearned runs.
Colby Belanger also had three RBI, and Ryder Bragg hit a single and a double for Buckfield.
Zack Davis led Carrabec with two hits.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 7, ST. DOMINIC 6: The Seagulls scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to win a season opener against the visiting Saints.
Old Orchard Beach was held to four hits but took advantage of nine walks. The Seagulls took a 6-3 lead with four runs in the fifth, but St. Dom’s answered with the runs in the sixth.
Trot Moody had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for OOB, and Wes Gallant scored three runs. Aiden Hodgkins earned the win in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out five over the final 3 1/3 innings.
Finley Cavers and Ben Dumais led St. Dom’s with two hits apiece.
