MONMOUTH — A new bell tower was put into place Thursday morning on top of the former Monmouth Academy on Academy Road in Monmouth, across the street from the current high school. In partnership with the town of Monmouth and the Monmouth Academy Rebuilding Committee, the former school’s bell tower was rebuilt and replaced — major milestone in the restoration of the building that will become a multi-function use facility for the town and private use.
A group of Monmouth Academy students watched the bell tower being hoisted into place by a crane. They were joined by former students, including Alberta Kemp Burnham, who graduated in 1954, as well as Kristin Sanborn and Laurie Fairchild Gifford, both of whom were on the committee that helped fund the restoration of the former school. Gifford’s father was principal of the school.
