To the Editor:
It’s a hope that legislation will not be dilatory concerning lithium mining– a process that is required through the stewardship of Maine’s congress. We are hoping that legislation will take into account neighbors, neighborhoods, and communities adjacent. One land owner who is not adjacent has said people should be able to do what they want with their property. This does not take into account what neighbors desire—want—for their own homes, property, and communities. Such property rights should not be denied either.
I’m thinking about the threat of continual all-day noise of mining machinery, the off-scouring of particle pollutants affecting streams and wildlife, and the financial deterioration of property values affected by this venture, which will be profitable for some but harmful to others.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
