LIVERMORE — Ashley Langlin-Hebert has enjoyed riding an ATV for years and is putting her love of the sport into organizing and helping to maintain the local trails.

The 40-year-old, who grew up in Livermore and Livermore Falls, lives in Livermore with her family. She worked at the Androscoggin Mill for 17 years in the shipping department until it stopped making paper in 2022..

She is the president of Brettuns Wheelers ATV Club in Livermore and doesn’t mind getting dirty when it comes to working with other volunteers on the trails.

What do you like about riding an ATV? I have always enjoyed getting out into nature with friends and seeing places you might not always see, local and afar. I enjoy going places I did as a kid on snowmobiles and remembering the trail.

How did you get into the sport? When I was a teen my uncle had a Honda FourTrax that I was allowed to ride around the trails at their house — he built a trail up to a local hidden waterfall so we could go there more easily in the summer.

After high school I had a lot of friends into the sport and we would ride everywhere. We would leave Livermore Falls and ride to Lewiston — the sport has changed now and those routes are no longer accessible. People do not understand that landowners have the final say and misuse can lead to land being shut off to ATVs.

Do you like being president of the Brettuns Wheelers ATV Club? Honestly, it is challenging. We have a great group of volunteers but the maintenance on the trail can be overwhelming. Having more people involved would help ease the pressure. However, the day the trails can open and people can get out riding is always a great day of the season. I enjoy stopping and talking to people on the trails and ask them how their ride is going and see if they need any help with directions.

Are you part of the trail maintenance group? Yes, we schedule work parties and do work when needed outside of the scheduled work.

Is ATVing the only outdoor sport you enjoy? Definitely not. We enjoy snowmobiling, playing golf, kayaking, and fly, brook, lake and ice fishing as well as bird and deer hunting, especially with our 1-year old German shorthaired pointer, Shelby.

What goes into being president of an ATV club? Coordinating Brettuns Wheelers ATV Club monthly meetings, attending our two sister clubs’ (Canton and Western Maine) meetings, scheduling work parties and gathering materials, maintaining the budget for each project, working with the Livermore Selectboard and Livermore Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club, applying for grants through the Bureau of Parks and Lands in order to keep the trails and bridges up to spec for the summer traffic.
