EUSTIS — America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the Looney Moose Cafe on June 20 to film for an upcoming episode.
Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owners Robert and Kellyann White about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.
Robert has worked in the restaurant industry since 1980, but left it for a while for a career in public safety. In 2019 he and his wife moved from China, Maine, to Eustis, and purchased the Looney Moose, opening September 2019.
The popular eatery, which Robert said is the only sit-down breakfast spot within 25 miles, serves home-cooked meals from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 7 a.m. to noon on Sunday. They are known for housemade pastries and donuts, which gained popularity during the pandemic and continue to be big sellers today.
The Looney Moose also serves hearty dishes such as specialty omelets, meatloaf, sandwiches, and the like. Fan favorites include the lobster grilled cheese, corned beef hash, and the top-selling pancakes.
“We’re known for our pancakes; it’s a family recipe, they’re old-fashioned buttermilk pancakes,” Robert said. “They’re huge; they’re like a foot across; everybody loves them.”
The Looney Moose is committed to their community, and started the donation-only Breakfast of Giving as an outreach to provide the proceeds to local charities. They have also won ‘Best ‘Mom and Pop’ Restaurant in Maine’ several years running by the website LoveFood.com.
America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location Friday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. The restaurant’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on its Facebook page and will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ website.
Restaurants featured on the ABR Roadshow are selected based on their customer reviews, menu items, social media presence, and level of involvement with their community. They are found through customer nominations, internal vetting or by a restaurant applying to be featured at www.americasbestrestaurants.
