DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have some antique dolls that I would like to get appraised. Do you have anyone in your Rolodex who provides that service? Thank you for all you do to help the community. — No name, no town
ANSWER: I don’t have any names in the Rolodex for specific antique doll appraisers at this time but I recommend that you contact an antique store in your area and inquire.
Here are some options for you: Daniel B. Soules (207-407-1444) at Daniel Buck Auctions Inc. (http://www.danielbuckauctions.com/) at 501 Lisbon St. in Lisbon Falls; Jim Talbot at Charles M. DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a maple rocking chair that was given to me when my oldest child was born. He is now 52! I rocked four babies in this chair and have such sentimental feelings toward it, but it really is in need of repair and refinishing.
Do you have a name in your Rolodex of someone who could renew it with loving care? — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: I believe I do! The Chair Doctor, John Leavitt, in Turner (https://www.chairdoctormaine.com/services.html ) can help you. Give him a call at 207-225-2293.
If anyone else has recommendations, let us know.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Drop-in Center at 121 Mill St. in Auburn is in need of men and women’s belts in all sizes, men and women’s underwear in all sizes, bras in all sizes, men’s summer T-shirts and shorts (small and medium), summer shoes and sneakers for men and women, socks for men and women in all sizes, reusable water bottles, bug spray and sunscreen and blankets (clean with no rips or stains). — No name, Auburn
ANSWER: I’m so proud to help with getting the word out about The Drop-in Center. This is a low-barrier resource center welcoming our unhoused neighbors. They serve a light breakfast and full lunch Wednesdays and Saturdays and are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. They offer toiletries, clothing, food and survival gear to guests.
All services are provided by volunteers and surrounding communities support the program through donations of many kinds. That’s where you come in, Sun Spotters. Please donate items needed from the list above whenever possible and keep the good mojo going.
I purchase a few extra toiletries, pairs of socks, etc., whenever I buy my own, and I go through my closets and drawers regularly, setting aside items I no longer need. I keep a bag in my entryway, fill it, put it in the vehicle and drop off when I come to town. It’s a good habit to get into and easy to sustain.
If you have a nonprofit you like to support, tell us about them and describe what they need!
