To the Editor:
This isn’t working. 100% humidity in western Maine. Temperatures are approaching 100 degrees, too. Flooding deaths in Texas; flooding for the third year in a row in Vermont. Parts of Canada and the West are burning.
Food prices are stunningly high. Retailers raising prices in anticipation of tariffs.
Masked government officials whisking our neighbors — some of them properly documented immigrants who have lived in the U.S. for many years — off to detention centers where they can’t talk with family or legal representatives.
A Commander in Chief who belittles, berates, incites violence.
Isn’t it time for “We the People” — Democratic, Republican, Independent, unenrolled — to say “enough?” Contact your Congressional delegation, talk with your friends and neighbors, and vote. Let’s restore our great country’s reputation for compassion and caring, and work to find a path forward that allows future generations to thrive in a livable world.

Comments are not available on this story. Read more about why we allow commenting on some stories and not on others.
We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
