An Auburn man was arrested Wednesday and charged with firing off rounds in the area of Willow and Hampshire streets a week earlier.
Police arrested 21-year-old Anthony Torres on charges of reckless conduct with a firearm, domestic reckless conduct with a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm.
Torres was charged with firing shots in the street on the night of Sept. 10.
About 8:45 p.m., police were sent out to the area after multiple people reported hearing what sounded like gunshots.
In the early part of the investigation, it could not be determined whether the sounds were from a gun or fireworks set off in the area.
Ultimately, police conducted several interviews and executed search warrants as Torres emerged as a suspect in the shooting.
Investigators from Auburn worked with Norway police, who were looking at Torres as a suspect in an related shooting in that town, authorities said.
On Wednesday, Torres was located and arrested without incident. He was being held without bail at the Androscoggin County Jail on Thursday.
At the time of his arrest, police said, Torres was on probation on a charge of violating a protection order.
