The Lewiston School Committee held four disciplinary hearings Monday that resulted in the immediate expulsion of three students.
The fourth student was ordered to return to school, Superintendent Jake Langlais said.
The hearings coming so close to the start of the school year was more about timing than reacting to incidents in September.
“Much of it was actually carryover from last school year,” Langlais said. “Due process has a lot of considerations.”
Langlais added that there is no new emphasis underway to control unruly student behavior.
“We are holding the line on behaviors as we have for years,” Langlais said. “There may be some narratives or perceptions, but (Monday’s) timing was more around scheduling than anything. “
The superintendent noted that the disciplinary hearings are confidential and added that he could not share any further information on the students or the incidents.
