If you can identify where this photo was taken, contact us at [email protected] or call 689-2896 and leave a voicemail with your answer, your name, town and phone number. Correct entries will be put into a drawing for a $25 gift card courtesy of Hannaford Supermarkets.

While we had some wild guesses from all over the state, the majority of entries knew that last week’s Mystery Photo was taken at the old entrance of the Lewiston Public Library on Park Street in Lewiston. Many recalled fond memories of walking up the granite steps, through the doors and into a world of books and enlightenment. Our winner, David Linehan of Lewiston, who was picked in a random drawing from all the correct entries, will receive a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. He noted in his entry, “Andrew Carnegie donated $60,000 for a new granite building with the understanding the city of Lewiston would fund and staff and get the books. The granite came from North Jay and Norridgewock.” Carnegie donated the money in 1901. The building, designed by Coombs & Gibbs, was completed in 1903.
