LEWISTON — A local woman was charged with drug trafficking Tuesday after police said a search of her Granite Street home uncovered a variety of narcotics and three handguns.
Police arrested Samantha Ogwudiegwu, 21, on four counts of aggravated drug trafficking. She was being held on $12,500 bail at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
Ogwudiegwu was arrested at Tree Street Youth on Howe Street where she is listed as an assistant program manager with Willow, an after-school program for elementary age school children.
Police said there was no evidence Ogwudiegwu was trafficking drugs at the youth center.
Tree Street Youth Director Julia Sleeper said she couldn’t comment on the arrest because it’s a personnel matter.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency had been investigating Ogwudiegwu for months on suspicion that she was trafficking drugs in the area, police said. The investigation included undercover drug purchases from Ogwudiegwu, according to a police news release.
When they searched her Granite Street home, investigators said, they found 167 grams of cocaine and nearly 8 grams of fentanyl along with 1,100 oxycodone pills, 60 Xanax pills, 30 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, two handguns and an AR-15 pistol.
Ogwudiegwu had been arrested in Sabattus in January on charges of failure to give a correct name and misuse of identification, although it was not clear how those charges were resolved in court.
She is expected to make an initial court appearance this week.
