DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Food Pantry (LACO) in Lisbon Falls is holding a food drive, bake sale and bottle drive at Food City on Route 196 on Friday, Oct. 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 4, from 8 a.m. to about 3 to 4 p.m.
Since we always run out of baked goods, we need bakers to help us out with bread, pies, cakes, cookies, whoopie pies, brownies and fudge. Also bring your cans and bottles for the bottle drive and packaged food for the food drive.
Cash donations are also appreciated. Please make checks payable to LACO Food Pantry. You can drop off your items and checks at Food City on Friday or Saturday, or both days anytime after 7 a.m. Thank you for your support and may God bless you all. — Bert, Lisbon Falls
ANSWER: This is your reminder to support another worthy cause. There’s still time to whip up a batch of brownies, muffins, etc., and head over to Food City to drop off those goods.
If you’re not a baker or don’t have time, stop by to make a purchase or a donation. Even that bag of returnables in the corner of your garage will help LACO reach its goal. Tell them Ms. Sun Spots sent you!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just found some beautiful teacups and I remembered an organization was looking for some to be donated for an event. Could you tell me where this is?— No name, no town
ANSWER: You’re remembering the Sept. 10 Sun Spots. The Lewiston Public Library will hold its first Literary Ball on Saturday, Oct. 18. This event commemorates Jane Austen’s 250th birthday and the theme will be the Regency era.
In preparation for the ball, the library is in the process of sourcing China teacups and lace tablecloths. If anyone has such items that they would like to donate, they will be greatly appreciated. For more information, please contact Sarah Bennett at [email protected].
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was looking for opportunities to volunteer in town for the fall-winter season and saw that the Franco Center has awesome volunteer positions. I just want to spread the word.
These opportunities include being part of the Event Crew — ushering, will-call and concession stations, and cleanup; Office Support — assisting with mass mailings and administrative tasks; Heritage Help — dusting and cleaning history exhibits; Tour Guide Assistant — Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Student Tours — Helping staff split up large school groups; and Library Assistance — supporting our Franco-American genealogy resource center.
You can also download a form that can be printed and mailed in or dropped off: francocenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/VolunteerApplication-1.pdf — No name, no town
ANSWER: Supporting this organization by volunteering will give you something interesting and fun to do with your time. There is a spectrum of varied tasks to choose from and you’ll have the opportunity to meet some wonderful folks.
