One of Lewiston’s largest and oldest law firms — Skelton Taintor & Abbott — has purchased a Lisbon Street building to become its headquarters.
The purchase was announced by commercial real estate firm CORE, which brokered the $1.2 million deal.
The law firm purchased the 18,000 square feet of Class A office space at 491 Lisbon St., which will become the firm’s primary office after a renovation is completed.
The law firm currently leases the top two floors of an adjacent building at 500 Canal St., the former Northeast Bank headquarters building, which it moved into in 2021.
Skelton Taintor & Abbott traces its roots to 1853 and is a well-respected firm in Lewiston and Auburn, named in the highest tier among family law and litigation and real estate by ratings guide Best Lawyers 2025 edition, among other accolades.
According to CORE, the law firm initially discussed leasing 491 Lisbon St., but decided instead to buy the building and transform it into what it calls a “state-of-the-art” office space.
No timeline was given for the renovation or the move.
