Jacqueline “Jackie” Belanger
DURHAM, N.H. – Jacqueline “Jackie” Belanger, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, surrounded by family.
Jackie was born March 11, 1938, the second of three daughters to Phyllis (McMoran) and Kenneth Tripp of West Poland. Her early years on Megquier Hill in West Poland were shaped by a love of learning, a lifelong affection for cats, and happy days spent outdoors with her sisters and the neighborhood children. She was especially fond of the visits from her favorite uncle, Wayne McMoran.
When she met Brad Belanger, Jackie found someone who shared her love of family, the value she placed on hard work, and her belief that one would be rewarded for it. In 1956, they moved with their young son, Scott, to Meriden, Conn. in search of good jobs. Brad found his, working the first shift at Pratt & Whitney and Jackie, hers, working the evening shift at Stars department store. In 1967, when an opportunity to buy the local country store back in West Poland arose, they leapt on it and moved their young family, which now included daughter, Terry, back to Maine.
With Belanger’s Market, a new home and thriving business was born. Brad and Jackie worked seven days a week, side by side, to serve a diverse customer base. Locals did their grocery shopping on tabs, always paid, and came to appreciate the kind hospitality, sense of humor, and honest talk they found from Brad and Jackie. So too, did out of state visitors and summer residents of Tripp and Thompson Lakes. Over time, Jackie realized there was another business opportunity that some hard work, grit, and hopefully good luck would help them create. She and Brad worked to get their real estate licenses and started operating Belanger Realty out of the back of the store.
By this time, grandchildren had arrived. They loved spending time with “Nana/Nannie” and “Bampie,” who cherished every moment with their grandchildren. These included “working” in the store, running errands around town, camping trips, and boating or snowmobiling on Thompson Lake. Some of the most treasured times were the simple ones — sharing Sunday dinners or just talking and being together as a family. Brad and Jackie devoted themselves to their family, and provided a loving home above the store, on the Lake, and up on Megquier Hill.
After Brad passed, Jackie was blessed to have found a loving companion in Richard “Dick” Wyman. They wintered in Zephyrhills, Fla. and spent their summers in Norway. Dick came with a devoted family who loved and cared for Jackie.
Jackie was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Brad Belanger; her partner of 20 years, Dick Wyman; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Belanger, whom she loved dearly; her sister, Frances Packard; and her great-granddaughter, Bella Belanger.
Jackie is survived by her son, Scott Belanger, and daughter, Terry Pomerleau and husband Bob; her grandchildren, Craig Belanger, Nicole LaBrie, Sarah Carter, Ryan Belanger, Bo Belanger, and Jen Coffin; her sister, Sandra Nichols; 15 great-grandchildren, whom she affectionately called her “greats”, Grace, Mary, Bradley and Caroline Belanger, Sam and Liam Carter, Ellie and Noah Coffin, Max, Annie and Ellie LaBrie, Chance, Trey and Ivy Belanger, and Millie Belanger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
What we will miss most are the loving embraces and kisses, and the easy and comfortable conversations she always provided. She was a good listener with kind, wise and honest words, and had an infectious sense of humor. We are grateful for the example she set with her love of family and her work ethic.
We would like to thank the staff of Newfound Lodge of RiverWoods Durham, N.H. who took such loving care of her these last 12 months.
There will be visiting hours at Chandler Funeral Home, 26 West Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls, on Oct. 22 from 3 to 5 p.m.
