Southern Maine will likely see its first major snowfall of the season next week.
The National Weather Service in Gray is anticipating a widespread snowfall to start Tuesday evening, lasting into Wednesday.
Forecasters are still trying to determine how intense the storm will be, meteorologist Jon Palmer said Saturday morning. The weather service expects to know more by Monday.
“It is looking increasingly likely that we’re going to see widespread snow across the area,” Palmer said. “What we’re trying to iron out is, is this just going to be 2 or 3 inches? Or a full-on winter storm?”
Southern Maine is also expected to see rainfall starting Sunday, the weather service reported, although that should clear in time for the snow. North of the mountains, Palmer said, Mainers might get a couple of inches of snow.
