A fire in Litchfield destroyed a home Sunday night near Cobbosseecontee Lake, displacing a family of five, Litchfield fire Chief Michael Sherman said.
The single-family home at 13 Cove Drive was mostly engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived around 9:30 p.m., Sherman said. The five residents are in touch with Red Cross and are staying with family, he said.
No injuries were reported, and nobody was home when the fire began, he said. A cause was not immediately clear.
Fire crews from Litchfield, West Gardiner, Monmouth and Gardiner responded, and the fire was under control by midnight. The Wales Fire Department covered the town of Litchfield’s service calls during the fire.
The call was complicated by the snowy weather and the windy camp road to the house, Sherman said. But helpful mutual aid from the other departments prevented any further issue or injury.
