The first week of the season has featured some big wins, several of which are rewarded in the first Varsity Maine boys hockey poll of the winter. Messalonskee’s 7-4 victory over reigning Class A champion Thornton impressed the voters the most, as the Eagles received six first-place votes and the top spot in the poll.

Three other teams earned one first-place vote: No. 2 Edward Little, which opened with a 1-0 win over No. 4 Cheverus Yarmouth; Thornton Academy, which is still a state title favorite; and No. 5 Lewiston co-op, which started its season by beating the Cony co-op.

The Varsity Maine boys hockey poll is based on games played before Dec. 9, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
